The Trouble With Marketing

The trouble with marketing is that it takes time and a concerted effort to be effective.  If you've already got a great product, it can sell itself but will it survive on its own?  We are taught early on in our brainiac marketing classes that there are the 4 Ps (or 5 Ps if you're a bit younger) of Marketing.  

  1. Product
  2. Price
  3. Place 
  4. Promotion
  5. People

Easy enough, right? Sure.  I can sit at a desk and tell you what these likely are for any business.  I contend that the other side of the equation are the 4 Ts (or 5 Ts if you're a bit younger) of Marketing.

  1. Time
  2. Time 
  3. Time
  4. Time
  5. Time

You need time to figure out who your competition is, time to strategize, time to plan, time to execute and time to evaluate.  If you're not doing each of these with your marketing activities.  How do you know that you've reaped the rewards or weren't as successful as you'd hoped because of your marketing activities.  

It takes time, plain and simple.  If you've got the place, I've got the time.
